Fairshare is a bill-splitting app built for people in Hong Kong. We believe your data is yours, and we want to be upfront about what we collect and why. No legalese — just plain English.
What data we collect
When you use Fairshare, we collect the following:
- Phone number — used to identify your account and let friends find you on the app.
- Display name — so your friends know who they're splitting with.
- FPS proxy info — the phone number, email, or FPS ID you choose to receive payments. This is shared with people you split bills with so they can pay you.
What we don't collect
Receipt photos never leave your phone. When you snap a photo of a receipt, it's processed entirely on your device. We never upload, store, or see your receipt images. The only data that reaches our servers is the list of items and prices after your phone has read them.
How we use your data
We use the data we collect to:
- Let you create and split bills with friends.
- Track who owes what and who has paid.
- Send you notifications when someone pays or when you're added to a bill.
That's it. We don't sell your data, show you ads, or use your information for anything else.
Where your data is stored
Your account data and bill history are stored securely on Supabase, a cloud database platform. Supabase uses encryption in transit and at rest to protect your information.
Third-party services
Fairshare uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database and authentication.
- Expo push notifications — to send you notifications on your phone. We only send the push token and message content to Expo's servers; no personal data is included in notifications beyond what you'd see on screen.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — ask us what data we hold about you.
- Delete your data — ask us to delete your account and all associated data.
