Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
These terms govern your use of Fairshare. By using the app, you agree to them. We've kept things short and clear.
What Fairshare is
Fairshare is a bill-splitting tool. It helps you figure out who owes what after a group meal and makes it easy for everyone to pay their share.
Fairshare is not a payment processor. We don't move money, hold funds, or process transactions. When it's time to pay, you do that through your own banking app using FPS (Faster Payment System). We simply show you who to pay and how much.
Your account
To use Fairshare, you create an account with your phone number and a display name. You may also add FPS payment details so friends can pay you directly.
You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for any activity that happens under it.
Your responsibilities
When using Fairshare, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information — don't enter fake names, wrong amounts, or misleading payment details.
- Use it honestly — Fairshare is for splitting real bills with real people. Don't use it to deceive, defraud, or harass anyone.
- Respect others — don't spam people with bill requests or misuse the notification system.
We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms.
Payments and FPS
All actual money transfers happen through FPS via your banking app. Fairshare has no role in the transfer itself. We don't guarantee that payments will be completed, and we're not responsible for any issues with your bank or FPS.
When you mark a payment as "received" in Fairshare, that's just a record in our app — it doesn't affect your actual bank balance or FPS transactions in any way.
Limitation of liability
Fairshare is provided "as is." We do our best to keep things working smoothly, but we can't guarantee the app will always be available or error-free.
We are not liable for:
- Incorrect bill amounts caused by receipt reading errors — always double-check the numbers.
- Failed, delayed, or incorrect FPS payments — those are between you and your bank.
- Disputes between you and the people you split bills with.
- Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from using Fairshare.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know through the app. Continuing to use Fairshare after changes means you accept the updated terms.
